“New year, new you” is a saying we hear all too often come each and every New Years Eve. People seem to think that the start of each year is the only time to revamp one’s life or make changes to it.

Spoiler alert, if you’re serious about making changes in your life, no matter what they are, there’s no time like the present! Why should someone have to wait until it’s a new year to make improvements to their lives?

In my own experience, and from what I have seen in family and friends, most individuals do not stick to their resolutions. Sure at the start of January you’re determined and it is new and exciting but then the excuses start to flood in and it becomes easier and easier to not stick to your goals.

If you really want to make a change in your life, whether it be mental, physical or spiritual, why not start today? There is no “right” time to improve yourself and if you’re that serious about making changes the time or date shouldn’t matter. If you just start, you’re more likely to stick to it and see real change instead of waiting for the start of a new year or even just a Monday for that matter. If you can make excuses to wait to start until a specific date, what makes you think you won’t make excuses to not follow through. By making a commitment to yourself and just going for it at any given time or day, you’ll surprise yourself by how much better you stick to it.

The “New year, new you” slogan is more focused on making changes for other people versus yourself. It’s easier to go with the crowd and jump on the bandwagon of New Year’s resolutions when everyone else around you is doing it. But if you start on your own you’ll be more driven and stick to it since you’re making these changes for yourself and no one else.

Conclusion of the story, don’t wait until the new year to make a change, start now! You’ll surprise yourself but how much better things will work out!
