Life can be stressful. Your home should be your safe haven from stresses not stress inducing.

It may seem as if there’s never ending dishes or laundry. Your home isn’t as clean as you’d like it to be or it’s not decorated just as you imagined. Maybe you don’t have the time to have a pristinely clean home or the budget to have it perfectly decorated. Yet, there is something that you can adjust to ensure your home is a safe haven for you and whomever inhabits it with you.

Your mindset.

Your attitude affects yourself and others. In the grand scheme of things is it that big of a deal that your husband forgot to take out the trash? Or that your teenage son left a collection of dishes in his room?

No, it’s not okay for you to be the one to constantly remind everyone to do their household duties but approaching the issue in a respectful way is key. Calmly and clearly state why it’s important to you for this to be done. This allows you to get your point across while still having a good attitude.

When you feel like loosing your temper over a small issue just remember a simple saying—live, laugh, love.

Do you have one of those signs in your home? Sorry no judgement but it’s a hard pass for me! I had an ongoing joke with one of my coworkers and we would try a slip in a “live, laugh, live wherever we could. An email discussing a new office policy—‘live, laugh, love’. A congratulations card on recently getting married? Live, Laugh, Love my friend! The saying was found in so many homes and at every home decor store across the country. It was overused and as quick as it came it (thankfully) disappeared just as quickly. Yet, it’s actually a good reminder.

Live. Live everyday with intention. Think about the bigger picture. Yes, it can be frustrating when someone isn’t contributing to the home the way that you think they should. But is it worth starting a fight or losing your temper? Handle the situation calmly and with grace. You’ll get much better results.

Laugh. Laughter is such a bonding experience. Think back to times when you couldn’t control your laughter and how great that felt. Loosen up and let yourself laugh with your family.

Love. Love your family and let them know it. Sometimes we take our family for granted because we think they will always be there for us regardless of anything we do. However, sometimes we will give strangers more respect than those closest to us. Our spouses, children, or whomever else you are close to deserve our respect and should be treated with love.

Please don’t use this article for a reason to go out a purchase a live, laugh, love sign but do use it as a reminder to always show your family love everyday. And don’t forget to laugh!
