1. Go somewhere public or on a group date. This rule is first because it’s for your own safety. Also, it does not hurt letting your friends or family know where you are going.

2. Keep drinking to a minimum or don’t drink at all. This is a safety rule but it’s also a rule for your character. Many times, when someone gets intoxicated they do not act their true self. You could ruin a potentially good relationship by a poor choice. It’s better just to avoid anything that would alter your judgment or keep him from seeing who you really are as a person.

3. Wear something that you are not only confident in but also make sure it is comfortable.

4. If you’re going out to dinner, never order soup on the first date! Have you ever watched someone eat soup? It is quite possibly the most unattractive food to ever eat. The best first date food? Sushi.

And one rule for after the first date

Don’t text him first, usually.

Normally, you shouldn’t text first. However, I am a big believer in knowing he’s the one after a first date. The case for not texting him first would be he should pursue you. If you are the one pushing the second date plans you are not allowing him to fall into that role. He may also not be interested in you and in that case it’s best to walk away.

However, if you truly felt fireworks and thought the date went very well then don’t be afraid to send him a text afterward. It could go something like this “Hey, I had a great time tonight! Thanks for (something that happened).” and let him take it from there.
