Do you have certain days of the month where you dream big and the creativity is flowing? Other days people seem to be drawn to you and you’re full of confidence? Then there are others where you prefer to keep to yourself yet seem unstoppable in completing tasks? This is due to your fluctuating hormones throughout your cycle. By knowing what phase you’re in throughout your cycle is the key to planning productive months and also when to take rests to avoid burnout.

The following information is not intended to replace medical advice. The days in parenthesis are the days in your monthly cycle. These days are estimates as every women is different. It is highly recommended to track your monthly cycle not just days you menstruate.

Phase 1: Menstrual Phase (Days 1-5)

This is the phase commonly referred to as your period. The most dreaded phase as energy levels are low. Due to loss of blood, you may experience depleted iron levels. Eating iron rich foods and staying hydrated could minimize your fatigue during this time.

The first days of this phase are when you will experience the lowest levels of energy. Use those days to prioritize rest. Don’t schedule deadlines around this time. Instead, reflect back on your previous month through whatever method works for you.

Once you feel more energized you can look to the next phase as it overlaps with this one.

Phase 2: Follicular Phase (Days 1-14)

This is the longest phase in your cycle and it is also the most variable one. During this phase your energy levels are relatively steady and your creativity is at a peak. Use this time to start on any new projects and work on planning it out.

Phase 3: Ovulation (Days 15-17)

During this phase you are like a magnet to others. All of the planning of new projects you did in the last phase are ready to be pitched to others during this one. Schedule any important meetings or interactions with others during this time because confidence is at a high.

Phase 4: Luteal Phase (Days 18-28)

Motivation to complete tasks are high during this phase. Use this time to finish any neglected to-do lists as you are likely to complete them. You are most focused during this phase so finding a non-distracting environment is where you will be the most productive.
